I must say I'm appauld at the price of concerts these days.

I know that ticket prices have gone up like everything else in this market based economy but the rate of increase is bordering on criminal to me. When bands like CSNY are charging up to 300 dollars for the "good" seats it makes me ill. I paid less than $10 for them at Red Rocks when they still had voices and energy. I refused the invitation to pay to see them make up for their lack of forsight and keep their noses out of the candy and expect me to pay for their retierment now. At those rates they could give half the money to charity and it would still be rape.

What ever happened to the music for the music sake?

I admitt to paying a scalper one time to see the Boys in the first row for my 100th show. As it turned out it was a huge mistake, the stacks were actually behind me and I was getting my sound from the stage. Then of coarse Vince played "Somba" and all the energy drained from the building, isn't karma a wonderful teacher.

Patti Smith - $20 at the catalyst this year in Santa Cruz - and it was fucking great.

Ryan Adams, also there and very good show from same here on archive, was $25.

I puckered up and paid $40 for Lucinda Williams - again, the catalyst.

I did pay through the nose for Stevie Wonder at concord pavillion, but I figured I'd never have another chance. And yes, it was so worth it. That said, go see folks in bars and small clubs (always more fun, but I know not always possible0.
Clear Channel (disguised now as Live Nation - and Bill Graham would roll over if he knew they owned BGP) and Ticketmaster have a virtual monopoly on venues and tickets that it's a hard nut to crack in the arena/stadium scenario.

BTW, Bill died tomorrow in 1991. RIP and thanks for all the fun - I got to thank him in front of the Lunt Fontane and at some Kaiser shows. He could be gruff, but damn, his organization delivered night in night out and did so with keeping the music foremost in mind. Yea, it was business, but tell me you didn't notice the difference between a BGP run show and another....

Tix to the echo project in Atl. (JUST FOR SUNDAY!!!) Just to see Phil were 86$.....thats is just F@@#$#% ridicules!! I REALLY wanted to go but thats outta hand!!! I have traveled far and wide to catch shows, but I refuse to pay that much money so that some corporation can get rich. If phil was askin that much I would pay it but I'm sure he was gettin only a smidge.

WOW! Guess David Lee Roth was more important to the band than their namesake? They certainly were a way more fun band with him that's for sure

The most I ever paid (although my Dad paid it) to see the GD was $40.00 at 3 Rivers 1995. I'm sure there were some service charges added on.
